Mahjong Organizations
Unites riichi and MCR communities across Europe. Maintains rankings, accredits tournaments, publishes RCR rules (latest edition — 2025, effective January 1, 2026).
Organizes the European Riichi Championship (ERC) for member countries. Partners with WRC and holds one of the largest quotas for the World Championship.
Organizes the World Riichi Championship every 3 years. Develops and maintains WRC Rules — the international standard. 4th WRC held in Tokyo (2025), 5th announced in New York (2028).
WRC also runs the World Riichi League (WRL) — a regular series of offline tournaments using WRC Rules across Europe and the US (worldriichileague.com). WRL results count toward rankings, and winners may earn a direct seat at the next World Championship.
Since 2025, the WRPM (World Riichi Professional Mahjong) program operates as a pro group for players outside Japan (~40 professionals as of 2026). Applications are open: English exam ($75), membership $30/mo. Members get access to seminars, coaching, and pro tournaments through partners — JPML, NPM, and MU.
International Mahjong League under IMSA (International Mind Sports Association). Riichi is one of three official rulesets alongside MCR and other variants.
MIL developed the rules for duplicate mahjong, which enabled the game to be recognized as a mind sport alongside chess and Go.
The Mahjong Federation of Russia is an EMA-style organization within Russia, originally created by MCR (Sport Mahjong) players. Currently co-managed by riichi and MCR communities.
The riichi community and mahjong.click portal is a union of riichi players that handles tournament accreditation, rating management, and other riichi development matters.
As an EMA member country until 2022, Russia comprised roughly half of all riichi players in Europe. Since 2022, the community effectively operates as an independent organization.
Runs major online tournaments and online leagues for the Russian-speaking community, with an impressive player base of quite a high level.
Korean Mahjong League. Organizes IORMC (International Online Riichi Mahjong Championship) — annual online world championship since 2012. Originally a Korea vs Japan match, by 2018 grew to 21 countries. In 2025 — 26 teams. Played on Tenhou using WRC-based rules.
